Ruby Marine River Project
Powered by Partnership, Driven by Compassion
In the heart of Alaska, where rivers are lifelines and roads are few, the Ruby Marine River Project stands as a testament to what partnership and compassion can achieve.
Each year, countless outdoor dogs in remote villages endure freezing temperatures without proper shelter. Recognizing this urgent need, Straw for Dogs, in partnership with Ruby Marine, launched the Ruby Marine River Project – a mission to deliver dog houses and straw to rural river communities along the Tanana, Yukon, Koyukuk, and Innoko Rivers.
Collaboration in Action

About the Ruby Marine River Project
The Ruby Marine River Project is a collaborative effort to improve the living conditions of outdoor dogs in Alaska. By transporting durable dog houses and straw bedding along the Tanana, Yukon, Koyukuk, and Innoko Rivers, we’re able to bring warmth and comfort to dogs facing harsh winters in remote communities.
In these regions, dogs are more than pets — they’re companions, workers, and family. But limited access to resources makes it difficult to provide proper shelter and care.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of Ruby Marine, who donated all transportation, we delivered dog houses and straw at no cost to the villages — reaching even the most isolated areas by river.
With additional support from Lotto Alaska, this project reflects our ongoing commitment to animal welfare and rural community support — making sure every dog has a safe, warm place to rest.

Collaborative Efforts
Partnership with Lotto Alaska
Our collaboration with Lotto Alaska has been instrumental in the success of the Ruby Marine River Project. Thanks to the Charity Lottery Program, we have been able to deliver essential supplies to remote communities along the Tanana, Yukon, Koyukuk, and Innoko Rivers. This partnership has enabled us to distribute 91 dog houses and 94 bales of straw in 2024, and we are on track to surpass these numbers in 2025. Lotto Alaska’s support has not only provided financial backing but also helped raise awareness about the needs of outdoor dogs in Alaska, ensuring that more pets receive the care they deserve.
